The Present Self and the World-Individuating Record
A record-based account of personal continuity, memory, and world-individuation.
A record-based account of personal continuity, memory, and world-individuation.
This paper argues that the self is not a substance persisting through time, but a present conscious configuration supported by physical traces and records. Personal continuity is not identity between successive selves, but record-mediated coherence between present configurations. Compared with Parfit, RBO grounds psychological continuity in physical record-continuity and gives records a world-individuating role.
This item belongs to the Self and Continuity section of the RBO website. It should be read according to its status label: Working paper.
RBO is a BCT-derived philosophical framework for individuation. This item contributes to the project’s account of finite systems, stable traces/records, individuation, continuity, correction, and definite outcomes, while BCT remains the physics-facing core where quantum measurement is concerned.
